Gus Van Sant to direct Tupac film?

Apparently Gus Van Sant's background as a musician, along with his work on the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and David Bowie DVDs, has helped him find his way to a Tupac film which is to be developed in conjunction with Amaru Entertainment (founded by Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur) and Warner Brothers. Van Sant will direct the film which will focus on Shakur's experience as an artist and social activist rather than his murder, as Sylvester Stallone's Tupac film was reported to portray.

I'll be sure to keep you posted on anything else I hear. No news yet on who will play Tupac in the film, but the studio is reportedly in talks with Dr. Dre to executive produce the films soundtrack, which will be released on Amaru Records.
